Corkill and two relays also qualify
ANACORTES — Lynden junior Sara Jones, sophomore Paige Corkill and two of the Lions’ relays qualified for the 2A girls state swim meet with top-seven finishes at the District 1/2 Championships at Fidalgo Pool last week Friday and Saturday.
Jones advanced to state in two events, placing second in the 100-yard butterfly in a personal and school record of 1:00.67 seconds, beating her previous school record by a whopping 2.86 seconds. Jones also finished third in the 100 freestyle in a time of :56.15.
Jones, in her third consecutive year swimming at 2A state, is seeded third in the 100 butterfly and seventh in the 100 freestyle. She placed ninth in both the 50-yard and 100-yard freestyle events at state last season as a sophomore.
Corkill moved on to state with an eighth-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle at district in a time of 2:12.49. She is ranked 22nd out of 24 state swimmers.
Two of Lynden’s relays also qualified. The 200-yard freestyle group finished fifth in 1:50.84 and the 200-yard medley relay took seventh in 2:07.77. They are seeded 13th and 21st, respectively, for state.
The girls state swim and dive championships take place this Friday and Saturday at the Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way.

- Bellingham — Carley Preator, one-meter diving; Makenna Pittman, one-meter diving; Mei Personius, one-meter diving; Nyla O’Brien, 100 butterfly and 100 breaststroke; 400 freestyle relay.
