Lynden’s Jordan Medcalf then won state title

WHATCOM — In voting by the coaches, Nooksack Valley senior Carson Linville was named Northwest Conference boys golf MVP, while Mount Baker’s Clara Bergman was selected the girls co-MVP along with Lakewood’s Malia Schroeder. Ferndale coach Chad Hoidal was chosen NWC boys golf Coach of the Year.

Bergman capped off her prep career with her fourth straight top-10 finish at state, placing fourth in the 1A girls championships at Tumwater on May 22. She was ninth as a freshman, fourth as a sophomore and 10th as a junior.

Linville tied for seventh at 1A boys golf state on May 22 in Olympia. He won the 1A District I championship on May 9 and was the NWC regular-season champion with a 75.3 average for the year.

Hoidal helped five Golden Eagles place eighth overall as a team in the 3A boys tournament in Olympia, with three golfers placing in the top 71 spots.

Ferndale — Sequoyah Julius, 48th.

Sehome — Alex Hochsprung, tied for 24th; Ian Hakeman, tied for 19th.

Squalicum — Cameron Hulbert, tied for 50th; Cody DeWilde, 72nd.

Second team:

Lynden Christian — John Den Hartog.

Ferndale — Sam Cox, tied for 20th; Mikey Erickson, 71st; Haiden Rasmussen, 57th.

Bellingham — Nolan Ferrier.

Lynden Christian — Grace Meyer, tied for 18th.

Bellingham — Sophia Schmidt, sixth; Jada French, third; Natalie Frank; Milan Haley.

Meridian — Chloe Olson.

Second team:

Sehome — Joyce Kim; Lucy Hodson, 30th.

Nooksack Valley — Molly Tiemersma, 43rd.

Squalicum — Jadyn Hawkinson.
