Sehome’s Kealy, Weight the best on defense

WHATCOM — Meridian junior Kevin Galiano was named the Northwest Conference boys soccer offensive MVP, while Sehome’s Mason Kealy and Skyler Weight were selected as co-defensive MVPs, in county coaches’ voting. Co-Coaches of the Year honors went to Lynden’s Drew Smiley and Meridian’s Joe Spencer.

Kealy and Weight helped the Mariners win their third state title in school history and first since 2008 at the 2A boys state soccer championships in Sumner on May 25. The duo aided the Mariners in a 1-0 shutout of Columbia River, a team that had been on a 45-game unbeaten streak.

  First-team selections include:

  Lynden — Ethan Jamison, Jose Rios and Adrian Briseno.

  Meridian — Sullivan Klyn and Carlos Padilla Solis.

  Sehome — Morgan Antico and Jack Miller.

  Mount Baker — Clover Martin.

  Bellingham — Connor Steward and Owen Morrison.

  Squalicum — Saaw Swanson.

  Second team:

  Lynden Christian — Kaiden Wubben and Blake De Ruyter.

  Ferndale — Brandon Nowak, Ian Freeman and Lucas Amador.

  Bellingham — Trevor Johnson and Evan Bradley.

  Squalicum — Ben Carpenter and Mason Lloyd.

  Mount Baker — Freddy Delgado and Gage Corcoran.
