LAUREL — The Meridian girls basketball team came through its playoff gauntlet alive last week and now is headed to Yakima as well.

The Trojans beat Okanagan 37-35 in Wenatchee on Saturday in their regional game to advance to the state Hardwood Classic.

Junior Madeline Bowler led the offensive effort for Meridian, scoring nine points, while freshmen Maris Baklund and Avery Neal each added six in the victory.

Meridian advances as a 15-seed.

The Trojans will play on the opening day of the tournament at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 4, in a loser-out game against 7-seed Annie Wright. The winner will play top-seeded Cashmere in the quarterfinals.

A win against Annie Wright would guarantee the Trojans play at least two more games and until Friday at the minimum.
