Jones reset two of her own school records at state

FEDERAL WAY ­— Lynden junior Sara Jones broke two of her previous school records and nabbed two top-10 finishes at the 2A girls swim and dive state championships on Saturday at the Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way.

Jones swam to a fifth-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly in a time of 1:01.10, and took seventh in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 55.55.

On Friday, Jones bested her previous school record of 56.02 in the 100-yard freestyle, set at state in 2018, by swimming a 55.37 in the prelims to earn the fifth seed heading into the finals.

Her time of 1:00.16 in the 100-yard butterfly beat her previous record of 1:00.67, set during the district meet last week.

Lynden’s 200-yard freestyle team of Jones, freshman Priya Dhaliwal, senior Megan Rouse and sophomore Paige Corkill, placed 12th at state with a season best of 1:49.09. 

The Lions’ 200-yard medley relay of Jones (butterfly), Rouse (backstroke), Corkill (freestyle) and junior Olivia LiBolt (breaststroke), also swam on Friday in the prelims, finishing 18th in a season best of 2:05.16.
