WSGBCA senior event takes place at King’s High School 

SHORELINE — Lynden Christian’s Avery Dykstra and Sam VanLoo, Nooksack Valley’s Katrina Gimmaka and Meridian’s Ellesse FitzGerald have been selected to participate in this Saturday’s Washington State Girls Basketball Coaches Association Senior All-State games in King’s High School’s Mike Martin Gymnasium. 

All four locals will play on the Class 1A team, which is scheduled to take on the 2A senior all-stars at 4 p.m. Zillah head coach Brandie Valadez will lead the 1A squad. 

Gimmaka was named the Most Outstanding Player of the Northwest Conference after averaging 19 points and 11 rebounds per game for the Pioneers in 2017-18, leading Nooksack Valley to the state tournament. Dykstra (11.3 points per game) and VanLoo (10.3 points, 7.8 rebounds) paced the Lyncs to the 1A state title, and FitzGerald helped push Meridian back to the state tourney. 

The Class 1B seniors take on 2B at 2 p.m. Class 3A battles 4A at 6 p.m. 

At halftime of each game, the WSGBCA’s players and coaches of the year in each classification will be honored. Ms. Basketball 2018 and the WSGBCA State Coach of the Year across all classifications will also be revealed. 

Cost of admission is $10 for adults and $6 for seniors and students. Washington State Coaches Association members receive free entry.
