The start of fall sports has officially been delayed by two weeks, the WIAA Executive Board announced Tuesday. Practices for football are now set to start Sept. 5 and all other sports Sept. 7.
Just last month, the WIAA said it would try to proceed with a fall sports season regardless if all schools are able to participate.
In a press release, the WIAA stated the decision to push back the start of fall sports by two weeks was made in an effort to relieve pressure from schools as they prepare to reopen.
These new start dates mean competition can start as early as Sept. 18. However, this is all dependent on where individual counties are in the state’s reopening plan.
The WIAA is set to meet again on July 21 and will provide an update July 22 on fall sports.
