WHATCOM — Cole Bajema, former Lynden Christian basketball star and two-time Washington 1A Player of the Year, has put himself in the NCAA transfer portal after one season at the University of Michigan.
Bajema is Lynden Christian’s all-time leading scorer with 1,876 points.
Having initially committed to the Wolverines under former coach John Beilein, Bajema recommitted last summer after Beilein’s departure and the school’s hiring of Juwan Howard.
At the University of Michigan this season, Bajema appeared in 10 games for a total of 37 minutes. In that limited playing time, Bajema averaged 2.6 points per game, was 10-of-13 shooting and scored more than 50 percent from beyond the arc (4-of-7).
Coming out of high school, the 6-7 Bajema received multiple Division I offers from across the country.
Per NCAA rules, Bajema will have to sit out next season wherever he ends up. He has three years of eligibility remaining.
