WHATCOM — Former Lynden Christian standout and all-time school leading scorer Cole Bajema is headed home. Well, closer to home.

Bajema announced in a tweet Saturday he would be transferring to the University of Washington after playing one season at the University of Michigan.

The two-time 1A state Player of the Year didn’t find much playing time with the Wolverines, 37 minutes in all of last season, but he made the most of his limited minutes, making 10 of 13 shots.

The Huskies had shown interest in Bajema while he was in high school, but he considered Michigan his dream school and committed to the Wolverines.

It may have taken an extra year, but Bajema is now headed to Seattle.

Bajema’s sister, Kara, just finished a stellar career as an outside hitter on the Huskies volleyball team.

This marks the second former high school star from the state to transfer to the University of Washington after Erik Stevenson, a standout at Timberline, transferred after spending two seasons at Wichita State.

Attempts to contact Bajema before publication were unsuccessful.
