WHATCOM — Two persons from out of county died in vehicle crashes over the holiday weekend.
The Washington State Patrol reports that another person has perished in a motorcycle accident on the Mosquito Lake Road after a 20-year-old Bellingham woman died May 19.
A pair from Granite Falls were on a 2006 Harley-Davidson Flhtcu southbound about 11:10 a.m. Sunday, May 26 when driver Gerald F. McConnell, 62, failed to negotiate a curve in the 3900 block and the cycle crossed the road and struck a guardrail, the patrol said.
McConnell was transported to St. Joseph hospital. A passenger on the cycle with him, Linda C. Loney, 68, died of injuries. Both were wearing helmets.
The cause was too much speed for conditions, the patrol said. Charges were not expected to be filed.
The second fatality occurred early Saturday, May 25, in the 2300 block of Yew Street Road on Bellingham’s south side.
Joshua M. Oudman, 25, of Sedro-Woolley, was southbound about 2:25 a.m. at a high speed, failed to negotiate a slight curve on Yew and his 2011 Dodge Ram 2500 pickup struck two vehicles parked nearby and then a tree, the patrol said; two other vehicles were also impacted.
Oudman, not wearing a seatbelt, was declared dead at the scene. Drugs or alcohol were considered to be a factor in the crash.
The truck and two of the cars were considered totalled.
