OLYMPIA — Three youths from Whatcom County spent a week working as a page for the Washington State Senate at the Capitol in Olympia. All were sponsored by 42nd District state Sen. Doug Ericksen, R-Ferndale.
- Aaron Somma, an 11th grader at Lynden High School. He plans to join the U.S. Air Force, become a pilot and eventually fly for commercial airlines.
- Matthew Enertson, a homeschooled ninth grader from Lynden. He hopes to enroll in the Running Start program and after high school pursue a career involving computers or helping others.
- Luke Hollister, an 11th grader from Ferndale also taking classes at Whatcom Community College. Hollister enjoys speech and debate, tutoring in math and English, and participating in entrepreneurial activities. He hopes to someday run his own business.
The Senate Page Program provides an opportunity for Washington students to spend a week working at the Legislature. Students deliver documents and distribute messages and mail. Pages spend time in the Senate chamber and attend page school to learn about parliamentary procedure and the legislative process. Students also draft their own bills and engage in a mock session
