SUMAS — Sumas was judged to have the second-best-tasting water in Washington at Evergreen Rural Water of Washington’s 2019 conference and tradeshow on Aug. 28 in Bremerton.

Mt. View Edgewood Water Company from Edgewood in Pierce County won the title this year.

The three judges were Melanie Mankamyer with Wilson Engineering of Bellingham; Arnab Bhowmick with Aakavs Consulting of Issaquah; and Chad Short, Evergreen Rural Water of Washington’s team member of the year.

Sumas won first place in 2018 and 2012. After the 2018 win, Sumas moved on to the national competition, the Great American Water Taste Test, and placed fifth in the nation.

The Evergreen Rural Water of Washington is a nonprofit that puts on the state competition each year. The organization provides educational and technical assistance to water and wastewater utilities throughout the state.
