SEATTLE — In winter and especially in adverse weather, Bloodworks Northwest struggles to keep its blood inventory at sufficient levels to serve medical facilities.

Historically, blood donations decrease by 25 percent during the winter months, resulting in blood inventory levels dipping to an emergency low. This is happening again.

To encourage donations, Haselwood Auto Group of Bremerton has partnered with Bloodworks Northwest to give donors the chance to win a new car. The Bellingham donation center is in Bakerview Square, 410 W. Bakerview Rd., Suite 117.

Anyone who comes into any Bloodworks Northwest donor center or to a blood drive through March 17, 2020, has a chance of winning a new car. It will be a choice among nine pre-selected new models in inventory.

Donating blood only takes one hour from registration to cookie. Most people in good health, at least 18 years old and weighing at least 110 pounds, may donate whole blood every 56 days as long as they meet other donor criteria. Every pint donated has the potential to help three people at hospitals across the Pacific Northwest.

Donors can find locations of donor centers, blood drives or make appointments online at BloodworksNW.org/winacar, by calling 800-398-7888, or by texting ‘winacar’ to 91985 to learn more and download the Bloodworks App.
