Moves between Northwest and Southwest seen as opportunity

WHATCOM — Lynden-based Simple Box Storage, which rents and sells shipping containers for storage, moving or modification, recently opened a location in Buckeye, Arizona, to serve the Phoenix and Goodyear areas.

Simple Box Storage offers 10-, 20- and 40-foot-long containers, containers for moving, construction and industrial uses, and modified containers for temporary site offices.

Ross Black, owner and CEO of Simple Box Storage, founded the company in 1997 and was named the 2019 Washington Small Business Person of the Year by the U.S. Small Business Administration. The company has eight other locations in Washington, Oregon and Idaho. Simple Box Storage now has nine locations in the Western U.S. and is ranked in the 2020 Inc. 5000 list of fastest-growing private companies in America with a three-year growth rate of 78%.

“Any small business owner will tell you that [2020] has been filled with challenges, but I believe it’s also filled with opportunities,” Black said.  “People have been asking us to help them move between the Northwest and Arizona for years. I’m proud of my team for noticing the opportunity and running with it.”

Simple Box Storage’s success enables it to make a difference in communities across the globe, Black said. The company sponsors one orphan or widow for each employee the company has. It has also provided containers and supplies for global and national disasters.
