BELLEVUE — The Puget Sound Energy Foundation donates $1 million per year to help local organizations prepare for major emergency.

Some dollars, including employee and retiree matching funds, are allocated through two competitive funding rounds in April and October. Any nonprofit can apply, but grants are focused solely on keeping communities safe and prepared, especially for natural disasters.

These are grants given out so far in 2019 to Whatcom County recipients: the Lhaq’temish Foundation, $10,000 for its  Community Safety Program; Whatcom Family YMCA, $10,000 to improve public safety, handicapped accessibility and emergency preparedness.
