BELLINGHAM —  The cardiac program at PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center has been recognized as a top-performing one by the Cardiac Care Outcomes Assessment Program of the Foundation for Health Care Quality.

PeaceHealth received awards related to its cardiothoracic surgery outcomes (surgical treatment of organs inside the chest) and percutaneous coronary intervention (use of a catheter to place a stent in a blood vessel), formerly known as angioplasty.

To qualify for the award, cardiac programs must perform at or better than the state average in at least six of eight key quality indicators in each of the two areas.
