District Governing Board to meet at 5:45 p.m. in special meeting

Monday, June 20, the district’s three remaining governing board members will decide which of the candidates will join the board.

The Lynden School Board will meet at 5:45 p.m. Monday at 516 Main St. in the district office boardroom.

Johnson, formerly the board’s president, is relocating with his family to the Sumas area. Johnson served on the Lynden School Board since January 2013.

Kelli Kettles and her family are moving to South Carolina. Kettels has served on the Board since April 2017.

Candidates to replace Johnson and Kettels will take part in public interview with the Lynden School Board, then the board will go into executive session to review the candidate interviews.

Once the candidate review is complete, the Lynden School Board will leave executive session, return to the special meeting, then announce the two new school board members.

To qualify for serving on the Lynden School Board, candidates must be registered voters and reside in the Lynden School District boundaries.

On Friday, June 17, the Lynden Tribune asked the Lynden School District for a list of the candidates' names. However, Shari Shagren, assistant to the Lynden School District superintendent, stated that "consistent with past practice, the district has not shared the names."

"Candidates may remove themselves from consideration over the weekend," Shagren stated. "The list of candidate names will not be finalized and available until Monday evening."
