WHATCOM — Jennifer Sefzik officially filed on May 11 as a Republican to run for the 42nd District state representative Position 2 seat now held by Democrat Sharon Shewmake.

Jennifer said she loves Whatcom County, but does not love the direction the state is headed because of “extremist Seattle influence.”

“We need a representative who will represent Whatcom County and champion common-sense solutions,” said Sefzik, “not increase taxes to pay for more harmful legislation that we neither want nor need.”

Jennifer and her husband, Roger, have been married 34 years and have three grown children. Jennifer has a business degree in marketing from Texas A&M. For 20 years she worked in sales and marketing until retiring to direct and coach high school speech and debate.

Sefzik is endorsed by the Whatcom County Republican Party and incumbent Position 1 representative Luanne VanWerven.
