Poag couple again running it; opening is next Tuesday

LYNDEN — The original owners of a popular Lynden restaurant have returned and are reopening it with a slightly different name and many of their barbecue favorites.

Brian and Tanya Poag are launching Jake’s on Tuesday, Nov. 19, at 8114 Guide Meridian in Lynden Towne Plaza. The couple had owned and operated Jake’s Western Grill from 2007 to 2017 in the same location. They then sold the restaurant and moved out of the area. The new owner suddenly closed the restaurant last December.

“We want Jake’s to be a place where our guests feel like family in our home by serving quality, fresh-made meals with an emphasis on Southern hospitality,” Brian Poag said.

The new menu will include favorites such as beef brisket, pulled pork and baby-back ribs. Jake’s will be adding beef ribs, a smoked half-chicken and some additional Southern favorites. Almost everything will be made from scratch, Poag said.

Although the location is the same, the interior of Jake’s is being completely remodeled. “We wanted to bring a new look to Jake’s and this opportunity is a fresh start for us,” Poag said.

The couple’s roles will be similar to last time except that Brian will spend less time in the kitchen and more time on management and connecting with guests. Tanya Poag will direct daily operations and train employees while also serving guests.

The Poags decided to move back to Lynden from Arizona in August. With the start of high school for their youngest daughter, they wanted her to have the same opportunities as their three older children had being raised in a small community among family, friends and fantastic schools, Brian Poag said.

It was coincidence that their former business was available upon their move back to Lynden. “The opportunity was there, so it was a no-brainer for our family to get back to doing what we love and in a community that we call home,” he said.

Jake’s will be open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, and 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sundays. Take-out orders and catering will be available by calling 360-656-6332; online ordering can be done at www.jakeslynden.com.
