WHATCOM — On Saturday, Oct. 24, around 1:15 p.m., Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office patrol deputies responded on a welfare check to a home on Sunflower Circle in Sudden Valley. A roommate at the multi-level residence had reported finding his landlord and her two children deceased in an upstairs bedroom.
Detectives and crime scene investigators went to the scene and spent the afternoon and evening investigating. They have determined, according to a Sheriff’s Office press release, that the mother, 55-year-old Michele Boudreau Deegan, shot her twin 7-year-old daughters while they were sleeping and then shot herself. The crime appears to have occurred sometime Friday evening.
Preliminary findings indicate that the mother had been involved in a custody dispute over the children, which appears to be the primary motive behind the incident, the Sheriff’s Office said.
No more information was being released on Monday, pending final autopsy results and completion of the investigation.
