WHATCOM ­— Wetter weather means the county’s summer open burning ban is lifted effective at 8 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 11.

However, a permanent ban on open burning remains in effect for all the  cities and Urban Growth Areas of Whatcom County including Columbia Valley and Cherry Point.

Verbal burn permits may now be obtained via the county Outdoor Burning Information Line, 360-778-5903. Written burn permits for fires larger than four feet square are available at Planning & Development Services, 5280 Northwest Dr. All outdoor burning requires a permit, except for legal recreational fires.

For property within Fire District 11 of Lummi Island or 17 of Sandy Point, you must contact fire officials there to find out if the outdoor burning restrictions has been lifted.
