WHATCOM — On Jan. 5 around 8:30 p.m., deputies received information on the location of 38-year-old Shawn Sivo, of Ferndale, who was wanted for second-degree assault and possession of a stolen vehicle.
Deputies located Sivo driving northbound in the 7100 block of Valley View Road at a high rate of speed. A Washington State Patrol trooper and sheriff’s deputies attempted to stop the vehicle, but Sivo continued to drive recklessly, swerving to avoid spike strips. The chase ended when the suspect vehicle spun out into a ditch. Sivo and his passenger were taken into custody.
The passenger provided a statement saying that during the vehicle chase Sivo had thrown a bag out the window. Deputies located a bag in the ditch that contained a stolen handgun with 11 rounds of ammunition, 11.6 grams of heroin and 19 grams of methamphetamine.
Sivo was booked into Whatcom County Jail on investigation of these charges: first-degree driving while license revoked, reckless driving, attempting to elude a police vehicle, first-degree unlawful possession of a firearm, possession of a stolen firearm, possession of heroin with intent to deliver, and possession of methamphetamine with intent to deliver.
