Lynden district COVID case rate is now 464

  WHATCOM ­— The weekly Tuesday case-count numbers from the county health department bear out the fact of a COVID spike in the Lynden School District geographical area.

  These were the rates, by school district, per 100,000 population for the two weeks preceding May 8 (with the previous week in parentheses):

• Lynden, 464 (375)

• Ferndale, 359 (260)

• Meridian, 251 (167)

• Nooksack Valley, 226 (163)

• Blaine, 188 (296)

• Bellingham, 117 (133)

• Mount Baker, 76 (139)

  Whatcom County as a whole is now over the case-rate threshold of 200 to stay in Phase 3 of the Healthy Washington Roadmap to Recovery Plan. The county number stood at 227 as of May 8.

  The county hospitalization rate — number of admissions per 100,000 population over the preceding week — was also in excess of the threshold to stay in Phase 3. It stood at 6.7, and has been above the level of 5 since April 21.
