LYNDEN — On Saturday, May 25, an armed-robbery suspect barricaded himself in a Beard Road house with a woman and children present, but the standoff ended peacefully.
The road was sealed off at both ends, and Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office SWAT team and crisis negotiators were sent to the 500 block of Beard, where the suspect man was wanted in a Skagit County robbery of earlier in the day, Sheriff Bill Elfo said.
“Great job in negotiating the release on the kids and the eventual surrender of the suspect. No one hurt!” Elfo posted later Saturday on the Sheriff’s Facebook page.
The Skagit Valley Herald reported that Skagit Sheriff’s deputies were called at about 6:30 a.m. to a Clear Lake residence where a man kicked in the door, struck a 45-year-old man with a gun, held the man at gunpoint, took his cell phone, and left. He reportedly was an acquaintance who lived in the Lynden area.
