Four generations at the border
On Friday, Oct. 16, at the U.S.-Canada border north of Lynden, Elizabeth Vreugdenhil, 92, gets to hold her 100th great-grandchild, Elizabeth Grim, six days old, whose parents are of Surrey, B.C. It was also a meet-up of the five Vreugdenhil sisters Martha, Mary, Adria, Jane and Debbie, who with their mother try to gather at a spot periodically during the border closure; three are in Canada, two in the U.S. Parents of the newborn are Bryan and Leanne Grim, and Elizabeth is their seventh child. Mary Grim is the grandmother. Exactly 50 of the great-grandchildren are girls, and 50 boys. (Calvin Bratt/Lynden Tribune)
