Wilma “Joan” Van Hofwegen, age 77, joined her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday, July 28, 2020.
Joan was born in Des Moines, Iowa, on Feb. 14, 1943, to parents Tony and Wilhelmina “Mina” (De Bei) Wallenberg. She graduated from Valley Christian High School and attended beauty college. Joan worked as a beautician until she started her family.
Joan married Herm Van Hofwegen on Dec. 30, 1963. Together they had two children, Dave and Lisa. After their two children were born, Joan was a stay-at-home mom and did the bookkeeping for Herm’s carpet-laying business.
Joan is survived by Herm, her husband of 56 wonderful years; children Dave Van Hofwegen and Lisa (Lee Beld); grandchildren Bryan Beld (Jessica), Alyssa (Kurt Kvamme), Jordan Beld (Brielle), Kyle Beld (Anna); great-grandchildren Kennedy, Carter, Colton and Kora Beld and Briley Kvamme. She will be greatly missed by her sister Janice James and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws.
Joan was preceded in death by brother Bob Wallenburg, sister-in-law Sonja Wallenburg and brother-in-law John James.
A graveside service was held in Monumenta Cemetery on Saturday, Aug. 1.
