Western Washington University announces the loss of a “beloved community member, friend, and supporter” in Noémi Ban.
Ban, who devoted her later years to speaking out to many public audiences about her experience being a Holocaust survivor, passed away Friday, June 7, 2019, at age 96. Members of her family died in the Auschwitz-Birkenau death camps of Nazi Germany in World War II.
A memorial service was set for Tuesday morning, June 11, at Congregation Beth Israel in Bellingham. It was to be followed by a graveside service in Bayview Cemetery.
In telling her story, Ban came to be sponsored by the Ray Wolpow Institute for the Study of the Holocaust, Genocide and Crimes Against Humanity at WWU, and her family suggests memorials to that cause, or to the New Synagogue Fund of Congregation Beth Israel.
