Lawrence “Larry” Levien died peacefully in his home on May 17, 2020, in Puyallup at the age of 76 after a valiant fight with cancer.
Larry was born Feb. 10, 1944, to Carl and Gwendolyn Levien and was raised in Ferndale. He graduated in 1962 from Ferndale High School. He attended Washington State University, graduating in 1966 with a degree in wildlife management. Larry was an active member of the Catholic Church. He was on the building committee for St. Joseph in Ferndale before moving to Sumner where he helped maintain the grounds at his parish there and assisted at their food bank every week. He loved his family and being in the outdoors hunting, fishing or hiking. He grew a huge garden and shared it with family, friends, neighbors and the food bank. He enjoyed putting together jigsaw puzzles, doing crossword puzzles and woodworking.
Larry is survived by his five children, Ben (Morgan) Levien, Sara Jane Levien, David (Susie) Slagle, Kent (Amber) Slagle and Katie (Oscar) Slagle DelPoza; six grandchildren; siblings Hank (Carroll), Richard (Joanne), John (Charlene), Nita (Pete) Harksell, Carl (Beth) and Diana (Scott) Wharton.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty; his parents; brother Michael and sister-in-law Carroll.
Larry was buried at Woodbine Cemetery in Puyallup on May 29. There will be a Celebration of Life at a later date.
