Kerry Helm

Kerry Authur Helm, age 74, a tall, handsome man with a winsome personality, passed away peacefully on Oct. 3.

What joy must have filled his heart as he came face to face with his Savior.

Kerry was born on Nov. 22, 1946 to Arthur and Ruth (Lande) Helm in Everett, Washington.

Sadly, his father passed away when he was only 2 years old. When Kerry was nine, his mother, Ruth, married Marvin Payne and they moved to Bellingham. He gained two sisters from that union.

The family attended the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church now called Northside Community, where Kerry attended the last years of his life.

Kerry graduated from Bellingham High School in 1965 and moved to California to follow his dream of becoming a surfer. However, Uncle Sam came calling and he was drafted into the United States Army. He was very proud of the time he served in the Army and was honored to be called a Veteran.

Kerry loved cars and during his employment at Rothausen Volkswagen, developed a passion for Porsches.

Kerry has passed his love of cars and trains to his son and grandson. He created an elaborate train set in retirement for the entertainment of his grandchildren.

Kerry finished his career as a realtor for Follis Realty and enjoyed working with people from all walks of life. Kerry was married to Kathleen Stanton Helm for more than 20 years and they had two children, Amanda and James.

Kerry met Terri Marshall in 2017, though their families had known each other for decades.

In the short time they were married, they developed a deep love for each other and drew closer to God as well.  What a blessing it was for him to have her by his side during the last years of his life.

Kerry will be deeply missed by his spouse Terri; daughter Amanda (Justin) Costello, son James (Kerri), grandchildren Melia and Drake; sister Susan (Orie) Barron, and sister Janet (Birger) Henriksen.

With his marriage to Terri his family expanded and he was blessed to call her son Peter (Leanne) Marshall, daughter Andrea (Kyle) Manning, son Nathan Marshall, and her grandchildren, part of his family.

A private family graveside service was held at Enterprise Cemetery with Pastor Ted Swinburne officiating.

A public celebration of life service will be held at Northside Community Church, 950 Kline Road in Bellingham on Oct. 20 at 1 p.m.
