On Monday, Nov. 30, 2020, John Conrad Hanson, loving husband and father of three children, passed away at the age of 77, succumbing to kidney cancer.
John was born on Nov. 25, 1943, at Bellingham to Harold and Esther (Kelstrup) Hanson. He was schooled at Custer Elementary, Ferndale High and Skagit Valley Junior College. On June 25, 1966, he married Eileen Smith and they had 54 years together.
John worked for the Washington state highway department, Wilder Construction and Ennen’s food stores. He owned and operated Hanson Poultry Farm for 25 years after his parents retired from the business. In 1989 he was in the fishing industry in Alaska, working first as a deck hand and cook, then obtained his engineer’s license and was a chief engineer on several fisher/processor vessels in the Bering Sea. He retired in 2015 and moved to Tucson, Arizona, in 2019. He was a big Seattle Seahawks and Mariners fan and loved golfing, camping and sport fishing with his family.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother and son David.
He is survived by his wife, Eileen; son Jerry and wife Carlena, daughter Stephanie and partner David McKnight; granddaughter Angie Nordby; sisters Phyllis Koslanoski and husband Stan, Louise Hanson and husband Steve McMurray; brother Jim Hanson and wife Denise; and numerous cousins, nephews and nieces.
