Earl Matheson

Earl Matheson of Lynden is turning 100. He was born on Dec. 17, 1920, in Bellingham. He is a World War II veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served at the naval base in Kodiak, Alaska. Earl likes to spend time with family and friends, following sports, gardening and singing a happy tune. Earl married Frances Davis on Aug. 23, 1947, and they had 67 years together until her passing in late 2014. Their children are: Mike and Penni Matheson, Ethyl and Richard Ryan, Norma and Rick Pepperworth, and Debbie and Mitchell Clarke; also 14 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. What Earl attributes his longevity to is inscribed on the gates of the Clan Castle "Duncraig" near Plockton in the west highlands of Scotland: "Do Good - Love God - Work Hard." Earl is happiest when helping others and has an attitude of gratitude and a song for every occasion! A celebration hosted by family and friends is set for 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 17, outside Meadow Greens (following COVID-19 rules). To share a fond memory or birthday wish by mail, send to 301 W.
