Alice James

Alice James has celebrated her 103rd birthday. She was born on Sept. 16, 1917, in Sloten, the Netherlands, to parents John and Elizabeth vander Welle, who later lived in Oak Harbor. Alice was a dairy wife and mother, living in the same Custer-area house for 67 years. She and her husband Percy operated a 100-acre dairy farm for many years. Percy died in 1988, six weeks short of their being married 49 years. They had two children, Larry James (Elaine) of Pullman, WA and Sally Rogers (Dean) of Garfield, WA and Mesa AZ; plus six grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Alice moved to Pullman in 2010 to be near family. A celebration was held on Sept. 16 in Pullman with just a small group attending due to COVID.
