WHATCOM — A law enforcement procession route preceding the Michael Knapp memorial service has been set. It will begin at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 20, at the Phillips 66 Soccer Fields, southeast corner of Smith and Northwest roads, and go east on Smith to the Guide Meridian and then south to Westerly Road in Bellingham.
“Only those agencies where Chief Knapp was employed are participating in this procession,” say organizers. Those locally would include the Blaine, Ferndale and Lynden police departments.
First responders from other agencies and the public can show their support for Chief Knapp along the procession route. It is asked that this be especially along Meridian Street between Stuart and Westerly roads in Bellingham. For the safety of motorists and those involved in the procession, please park in the business parking lots along Meridian and stand on the sidewalks as the procession passes by. This is also nearby the memorial service venue — be careful walking.
Traffic along the route is expected to be impacted generally in the 11:30 a.m. to noon timeframe.
