BELLINGHAM — Ideal Option, Washington state’s largest provider of medication-assisted treatment for individuals suffering from opioid use disorders, has opened a new location at 3800 Byron Ave., Suite 122.

Since 2016, Ideal Option’s nearest location in Burlington has treated more than 250 patients from Whatcom County, traveling nearly 30 miles to initiate or continue treatment.

The new clinic will provide Whatcom County residents struggling with addictions to opioids and other drugs increased access to Ideal’s evidence-based and personalized addiction treatment. This includes comprehensive physical and mental assessments; the prescription of Buprenorphine and other addiction medicines; and specialized behavioral health counseling as needed.

“As we continue to help our citizens struggling with addiction, we need additional resources that increase access to treatment,” said Bellingham Mayor Kelli Linville.

According to the Whatcom County Public Health Department, admission rates into treatment programs for opiate abuse have significantly grown in the past five years, yet demand is far from met. Data from the Washington State Department of Health shows 693 people in the state died from opioid-related overdose in 2017.

Whatcom County is below the national and state averages for opioid-related overdose deaths, however, and Ideal Option wants to help continue that trend and even reduce the rate farther.

“Our goal at Ideal Option is to provide the resources people need to overcome addiction and find lasting stability,” said Jeff Allgaier, president and founder. “We are thrilled to be here in Bellingham and look forward to working closely with the community to deliver more help to those who need it.”
