LYNDEN — The Northwest Washington Fair Foundation offers $500 and $1,000 scholarships to local high school students, with the application process now open.
Since starting scholarships in 2013, the foundation has awarded 30 of them to Whatcom County graduates for a total of $26,000. The nonprofit group of fair supporters administers this program as a way to support local agriculture.
Applicants must be high school seniors or full-time students in a college, technical school or university in 2019-2020.
They must use the scholarship award in an agricultural or related field of study at an accredited institution.
Application forms are available at the Northwest Washington Fair website (www.nwwafair.com) or local high school counseling offices. Completed applications must be mailed by April 19 to: NWWA Fair Foundation, ATTN: Scholarship Committee, P.O. Box 446, Lynden, WA 98264.
The Scholarship Committee will review applications in April, then interview finalists and make awards by May 30.
Applicants are judged equally on academic transcripts, personal character references, the personal interview and a one-page essay discussing the importance of the Northwest Washington Fair to agriculture, career ambition and leadership.
