LYNDEN — A local businesswoman is now also a book author.

Janelle Bruland speaks at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 25, at the Village Books store in Bellingham and then is at the Lynden store, 430 Front St., at 4 p.m. Saturday, May 4.

Bruland, founder and CEO of MSNW (originally Management Services Northwest), has grown her facilities management company into a major regional enterprise. Bruland has won numerous awards including SBA Washington Business Person of the Year and the Nellie Cashman Woman Business Owner of the Year. The business,  under her leadership, was named one of the fastest growing private companies by both Inc. magazine and the Puget Sound Business Journal.

Bruland’s book is titled “The Success Lie: 5 Simple Truths to Overcome Overwhelm and Achieve Peace of Mind.”

Early response to the book has been “terrific,” including a piece in Forbes a week or so ago, says a promotion agency.

Bruland, a 1985 graduate of Lynden Christian High School as Janelle Geleynse, started her business in her living room in 1995 with a handful of employees. Now MSNW employs 480.

It has a Ferndale Northgate Spur location, but also one in Tukwila for its regional reach.

Also on Saturday, May 4, at 2 p.m. in the Lynden Village Books store, Micah Moses of Lynden has a second book signing of his “Tristan, Dylan and the Dream Machine.”

It’s a children’s story told from the point of view of Moses’ twin sons. An earlier event with Moses sold out his first copies of the book.
