Dara Van Berkum and Matthew Scheffer, both of Everson, announce their engagement and plans for a May 21, 2010 wedding. Dara is a daughter of John and Cindy Van Berkum of Everson. She graduated from Nooksack Valley High School and from Whatcom Community College. She has an early childhood education degree and is a preschool teacher. Matthew is a son of Kevin and Debbie Scheffer of Everson. He graduated from Nooksack Valley High School and has an associate's degree from Whatcom Community College. He is employed by Hytech Roofing. The couple met at a Fourth of July party.
