Catharina Nydam

Surrounded by her family, Catharina Nydam, age 86, of Lynden, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, May 1, 2008 at St. Joseph Hospital.
She was born on May 22, 1921, to Ulbe and Gerritje (Hiemstra) DeJong in Gaastmeer, Friesland, the Netherlands. Catharina grew up in Holland and was married to Frank Nydam on Aug. 2, 1941, in Ougdea, Friesland. In 1948, Catharina and Frank immigrated to Artesia, Calif., where they raised their family. They were members of Artesia Reformed Church and shared the church janitorial responsibilities of New Life Community Church.
Following retirement, in 1979, they came to Lynden and joined Faith Reformed Church where they, for many years, faithfully shared each Wednesday evening the taped Sunday service messages with Christian Care Center residents. Catharina was never without a pair of knitting needles or crochet hooks, as her hands were continuously busy with handiwork. She also loved the warm sunny days of summer and the flower gardens in her yard. A hard-working individual, Catharina’s loving, caring heart for her family will be deeply missed.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank, in 2006; son Alfred Nydam, in 1986; and an infant grandson.
She is survived by her children Dick (Geri) Nydam, Earl (Pat) Nydam, Geraldine Kerr, Anna (Al) Biemold, all of Lynden, and Kathleen Nydam-Hovorka of Bellingham; 10 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives.
Graveside services will be conducted at 10:15 a.m. in Monumenta Cemetery on Wednesday, May 7, followed by an 11 a.m. memorial service at Faith Reformed Church, 612 Liberty St., Lynden.
Memorials in Catharina’s name may be made to the Endowment Fund of Faith Reformed Church, 300 Seventh St., Lynden, WA 98264.
You may share your memories and condolences in the online guest book at www.gilliesfuneralhome.com.
Arrangements are under the care of Gillies Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Lynden.
