Helen Dykman
Lynden resident Helen Dykman, age 82, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, May 2, 2008.
Born on May 5, 1925, in Chicago to John and Minnie (VanDerKamp) Batjes, she was married to Fred Dykman in Cicero, Ill., on May 28, 1947. They came to Lynden and together operated a dairy farm on the Guide Meridian Road. A lifetime member of the Christian Reformed Church, Helen belonged to the Third Christian Reformed Church in Lynden where she was actively involved with the Sharon Bible Study. Volunteering in service to others brought her much enjoyment, especially at The Hope Office and The Hope Chest in Lynden, as well as the Red Cross, Wycliffe Bible Translators and Ebenezer Christian School. Helen delighted in attending her grandchildren’s activities -- with a special interest in their sporting events.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Fred, in 1996.
She is survived by her children Barbara (Earl) Vinson of California, Marlin of Ellensburg, Ken (Elisabeth) of Maple Falls and Karen (Jerry) Scholten of Everson; 11 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law Elsie Dykman of Lynden and Lena Dykman of Montana; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be conducted on Wednesday, May 7, at 1:15 p.m. at Monumenta Cemetery, followed by a 2 p.m. memorial service at Third Christian Reformed Church, 514 Liberty St., Lynden.
Memorials in Helen’s name may be made to The Hope Office, 205 South B.C. Ave., Suite 105, Lynden, WA 98264.
