Oreen E. Hillmer

Oreen E. Hillmer, of Bellingham, passed away on Friday, May 2, 2008. She was 94.
  Oreen was born in Edmonton, Alberta, on July 20, 1913, to Mary (Dyer) and William Englehartson. Oreen graduated from Orcas Island High School and nursing school in Bellingham. She worked at St. Luke’s Hospital and St. Francis Nursing Home. Oreen married Walter Hillmer on Dec. 2, 1933, on Orcas Island, where they lived until 1946 when they moved to Bellingham.
  In Bellingham, Oreen lived in the same home for 62 years, until she recently became ill. Oreen loved country music, flower gardening, cooking, sewing and crocheting. She loved her family very much and enjoyed visiting with them and her friends.
  Oreen was preceded in death by her husband Walter in 1975 and son Ronald in 1981.
  She is survived by her daughter Sharon (fiancé Mike Amos) of Bellingham; daughter-in-law Betty (Clyde) Haveman of Lynden; three grandchildren: Sheryl (John) Bisschop of Lynden, Larry (Anne) Hillmer of Manitoba, Canada, Shereen (John) Lycklama of Lynden; 11 great-grandchildren: Bryan, Jennifer (Jonathan), Andrea, and Tyler Bisschop; Alyssa (Tony), Scott, Devon, Janae, Garett, and Talia Hillmer; and Tawnee Hillmer; great-great-grandson William Gelderman; and brothers G. Allan Englehartson and Stan (Margaret) Englehartson, both of Orcas Island.
  A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, May 8, at Woodlawn Cemetery.
